Sapphire and Ember
Prowling the curb where the shadows stretch long
A velvet-pawed rebel with a stride so strong
One eye is ice, a crystalline blue
The other is blood, burning right through
He strolls to the edge of a house in a blaze
Staring straight into the kerosene haze
The rafters are cracking, the sirens collide
But he’s got the heat and the winter inside
Oh, mismatched eyes in the soot and the spark
A two-tone phantom cutting through the dark
Are you the match or the rain falling down?
Walking the ruins of a ghost-ridden town
Leaving the ashes, he drifts down the street
To the concrete yard where the schoolkids meet
He sits by the fence as the playground grows loud
A silent spectator apart from the crowd
A girl in a cardigan kneels on the stone
Sees the twin colors and the dust on his bone
She whispers so softly, her hand reaching out:
"Are you lost, little cat?" in a world full of doubt
He doesn't make a sound, he just stares right through
The ash on his coat and the sky turning blue
Is he a warning, or is he just a ghost?
The ones who are quiet are the ones who burn the most
Oh, mismatched eyes in the soot and the spark
A two-tone phantom cutting through the dark
Are you the match or the rain falling down?
Walking the ruins of a ghost-ridden town
Are you lost, little cat?
In the ash and the cold...
Are you lost?
Or are we?
